Action A4: Assess the role of ecosystems/vegetation on urban heating/cooling and the relation with air pollution in the partner municipalities
Responsible: ENEA
After gathering knowledge on vegetation features and their capacity to emit BVOC, this action will estimate the net effects of vegetation ecosystems on urban heating/cooling and on-air pollutant concentrations, in particular for ozone (O3), particulate matter (PM10) and nitrogen dioxide (NO2) It will also explore how the vegetation ecosystem changes such as plant type and state, green area extension, etc. will affect both urban temperatures and air pollution.
Expected results
- Assessment of the role of vegetation ecosystems in urban heating and cooling patterns and the relation with air pollution in three municipalities: Bologna, Madrid and Milan
- Establishing synergic interaction with other initiatives/projects such as JRC/FAIRMODE and Life PREPAIR in order to guarantee an added value of the project results in addressing O3 and PM exceedances in urban areas providing relevant data for urban AQPs (Air Quality Plans) and general public
