The goal is ambitious: planting 4.5 million new
trees in five years, especially in urban areas and in the plain. Actually, a
tree for each inhabitant of the Region. In these days, Emilia-Romagna is
launching an impressive urban forestry action to fight the climate crisis and
improve air quality. Greenery is basically an essential partner in the
environmental policies of the Region and in the promotion of the Plan for the
reduction of climate-altering gases, in order to enrich biodiversity, to
protect and value the landscape, to improve life quality and make the area more
attractive.
The project kicks off in these early days of
autumn in Piacenza. To be precise, in Bobbio, European city founded on the
hills of Trebbia Valley by the monk St Columbanus. Here, in the abbey cloister,
it will be held an event on September 26 (9.30 AM – 5.30 PM), with some of the
national and international top experts in urban forestry. The initiative is called "L'orizzonte verde dell'Emilia-Romagna: 4 milioni e mezzo di nuovi alberi".
The event will also be broadcast live on the Facebook page of the
Region and ER Ambiente.
The Emilia-Romagna campaign for the planting of
4.5 million trees will be supported by Arpae (Agenzia ambientale regionale) and
by the Ceas network (Centri di educazione alla sostenibilità), which will put
in place a series of educational, communicative and participatory actions. In
Emilia-Romagna, this ‘network of education for sustainability’ finds expression
in the INFEAS Programme, which is focused on main problems and environmental
issues, giving projects and actions an educational key, in support of the main
sustainability strategies.
Actions under the Programme
INFEAS 2020/2022 – the main ones dedicated to climate crisis and urban
resilience, sustainable management of resources, nature and schools, Arbor days
– will in fact be carried out in the next months in the wake of
contextualization and awareness, towards the new ‘green horizon’ of
Emilia-Romagna.
